Last night, (or better, in the early morning hours of April 15, 2014) the Moon entered the Earth’s shadow, causing a complete lunar eclipse. This caused the moon to receive no direct light from the sun, being lit only by the dim light refracted and reddened by the Earth’s atmosphere. The “blood moon” appeared for about an hour in each time zone, gathering crowds of people watching the cosmic sight. NASA live-streamed a video of the happening, yet when I woke up at the peak of the event at 3.45am in New York, the website was overwhelmed and wouldn’t load. Luckily, NASA has shared a great animation of the eclipse.
This was the first of four “blood moons”–or tetrad–which is a series of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, with six full moons in between, that will happen over the course of the next 18 months.
Besides being a beautiful sight, an eclipse is a very strong energetic event that affects each and every one of us. I spoke with one of New York’s most famous astrologers, John Marchesella, to find out more.
How do eclipses influence us? The time of eclipses makes everyone a bit overreactive and sensitive about any existing issues. It’s very common for people to get sick during eclipse, because they have a very detoxing effect. It can be in the form of emotional detoxing, when you feel like getting rid of something you’ve been carrying on your chest for a while, or a purely physical detox. That’s exactly while fasts often coincide with the lunar calendar.
Does that mean that it’s good to do a cleanse around the time of an eclipse? The best time to do a fast is on the day of the full moon to the third quarter, because that’s when the moon is waning, and it helps toxins to leave the body. If you don’t know what you’re doing with a fast, then the worst time to fast is between the first quarter and the full moon – it’s just too much detoxing for the body. Detoxing on a new moon isn’t a good idea, because the body wants to hold onto toxins instead of letting go. That concerns juicing and any other type of cleanse, but only in case if you’re giving up solid foods completely.
If you’re looking for a good cleanse, I highly recommend Joulebody. It’s a New York-based company that uses only ingredients straight from local farms that are 100% free of gluten and preservatives, served in eco-friendly bottles and mason jars. I’ve tried several cleanses, and none of them left me feeling as detoxified and recharged (and NOT hungry!).
