Açaí bowls is how it all started for Breakfast Criminals.
You can read the full story here.
So when I get question from you guys along the lines of “What is açaí?”, “Why is açaí good for you?”, “What does açaí taste like?” and the most popular question of all time – “How do I make an açaí bowl at home”, I get REALLY excited.
So excited, that I just spent 7 hours on a Friday night editing a video that gives away all the secrets of a successfully delicious açaí bowl.
I tried my first EVER açaí bowl at Beet Box Cafe on Hawaii’s North Shore on Oahu Island, and my life hasn’t been the same since. It was love at first bite and a marriage for life. No vows needed – we get each other.
So when I quit my day job last year to be able to offer you more nourishment, motivation and self-growth tools through Breakfast Criminals content and events, I got myself a ticket to Hawaii to celebrate this big leap and exciting expansion.
Here I am, in front of the place where the first seed for Breakfast Criminals was planted through the joy that I experienced with my first bowl of grounding, healing açaí goodness:
This time I came back as an ambassador for my favorite açaí brand, Tambor Acai.
I sat down with Tambor’s Ryan Peters to chat about the 5 tips that will help you make a killer açaí bowl, every time. Watch the video (make sure you subscribe to Breakfast Criminals on YouTube!) and enjoy Ryan’s simple açaí recipe below.
Authentic Easy Açaí Bowl Recipe
This recipe has been my go-to ever since going to Brazil and getting hooked on this pure way to enjoy açaí bowls. See, when you use high quality açaí packs, you don’t want too many flavor distractions in your bowl. Açaí is the star of the show, and you have to let it be that :) If you’re wondering whether you can use açaí powder instead of frozen packs, make sure you watch the video as we answer that question for you!
Ingredients:
- 2 Tambor Acai unsweetened frozen packs
- 1 medium banana (fresh or frozen, depends on your blender’s power. I’ve also been replacing it with 1/2 avocado for a low glycemic version)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/3 cup water, coconut water or nut milk (add a bit more liquid if your blender is asking for it)
Toppings:
- Some favorites are: almond butter, goji berries, cacao nibs, coconut flakes, granola (homemade granola is best), coconut milk drizzle.
Directions:
Blend until creamy, top with love. Serve with intention. How do you want to feel today? Let your food bring that feeling to you with each bite.
