Why is having a morning routine important?
I believe that how you start your day is how you live your life. By spending your first waking moments intentionally, you get a chance to create your day instead of going through life on autopilot. Following a morning routine makes me present, productive and connected to what’s important.
What’s your morning routine?
As someone who is constantly optimizing my own mornings through recipes, rituals and biohacks, I get this question often.
I’ve shared my morning routine on Instagram and YouTube before. But the truth is, it’s constantly changing based on where I live, on the season, on my wellbeing, and what my priorities are at any given time.
I go through phases.
Sometimes, I’m all about the miracle morning routine with a side of celery juice. Sometimes breathwork and meditation at the core of my morning practice. Sometimes, I’m all about at-home rebounder HIIT workouts.
Since I moved from a spacious Brooklyn apartment into a tiny house in the forest, my well-being and the sense of feeling connected to nature has increased, but my morning routine has stayed mostly the same. The small amount of space doesn’t affect how much I can do.
In this post, I’m excited to give you a glimpse into my morning routine so you can evolve your day, too.
This post is sponsored by my friends at Evolution Fresh and their delicious 100% organic, cold-pressed Celery Glow juice with a twist of lemon – a fantastic addition to a healthy morning routine. If you’re not yet into drinking celery juice in the morning, just check out these celery juice testimonials – I promise, your interest will be peaked.
Here goes my tiny home morning routine!
1. Social media fast
Your morning routine begins before you even get out of bed.
Does it empower you to look at your phone first thing in the morning? Hey, it’s cool if it does. For me, it leads to a frazzled morning and anxiety sprinkled throughout the day.
That’s why my number one rule is to stay away from my phone for the first few waking moments. That’s why I don’t use the alarm clock on my phone, and highly recommend getting an old school alarm clock so that you stay away from scrolling first thing in the morning.
How you start your day is how you live your life, and instead of letting others’ thoughts/opinions/requests take over my energy field, I consciously choose to create my morning.
It took me a while to get used to not scroll first thing in the morning, and then it became a habit. Even when I have the impulse to grab it, I take a deep breath and ask myself what I really need.
Social media fasting is just as important that intermittent fasting!
2. Hydrate
As soon as I get out of bed, I go to the bathroom, splash cold water on my face, spray rose water on my skin, and make a glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice. If my immunity feels off, I make a morning turmeric ACV elixir with raw honey instead.
On days when I have Evolution Fresh Celery Glow juice in my fridge, I take a bottle out of the fridge so that by the time I’m done with meditation, it’s not as cold to drink.
3. Meditate
This is the single most important part of my morning routine. Meditating in the morning sets the tone for the entire day. Even if you just sit and breathe for 5 minutes, you’ll see a big difference – it doesn’t have to be anything big.
I usually use apps like Headspace and Insight Timer and alternate between guided meditations and silent meditations. Right now my go-to is a 20-minute Vedic meditation practice (a silent mantra repetition based practice).
4. Move
Time to get dressed and move my body! On some mornings, that means putting my feet on the earth and taking a walk to the compost pile or to the garden. On most days, I roll out my yoga mat and do a 15-20 minute yoga flow on YouTube, or go for a barre inspired workout. This one is super effective! If the workout is sweaty, I take a shower after while listening to my latest Spotify playlist.
5. Nourish
I finish my lemon water, and switch to celery juice. I find that drinking celery juice regularly has helped me with bloating and digestion. I’ve previously shared more about my experience and more celery juice testimonials. Usually, I drink it for a week or two, then take a break.
Then I make a frothy herbal, coffee-based or a matcha latte with oat milk. I love my morning latte ritual!
Here are some recipe ideas:
6. Make a plan
Then, I grab my frothy latte, sit down at my desk (that also serves as a place to eat when it’s too cold to use the picnic table), take out my Bullet Journal, and make a list of the things I want to get done that day. I also look over the previous day and see if there’s anything that needs to be addressed.
7. Make breakfast
Once I’m done with my beverages, I’m usually ready for breakfast. Right now my go-to is a chia bowl with a warm stewed apple from our backyard, cinnamon and granola.
Your turn! What morning ritual are you the most excited to implement in your life?
